Business & Financial Economics
- Feasibility Study
- This study is tailored to the specific needs of the client, and is often used to evaluate a potential project. This type of analysis is most helpful when expanding into new geographic markets, or when considering the development of a new product. Feasibility Studies are often required by lenders (including USDA & SBA) as a way to gauge the potential for success of a business or project. The core of the feasibility study consists of a Business Case and a Cost-Benefit Analysis.
- Business Case
- We have designed our Business Cases to provide a consistent and comprehensive view of the project or business based on measurable and realistic expectations. All assumptions are documented, logically reasoned and with sufficient detail to provide for ease of understanding and wide dissemination as needed. While a lender or investor may occasionally order a standalone Business Case, it is typically an integral part of a Feasibility Study.
- Cost-Benefit Analysis
- CBA offers an opinion on the costs and benefits for doing or not doing some activity. This most often looks like pro forma financial statements with known information. This is often a less expensive, albeit, limited alternative to a full fledged Feasibility Study and does not include a business case. Stand alone CBAs are most appropriate when the business case is well established, a feasibility study has already been conducted, and/or the project needs to have several scenarios modeled that were not previously considered. Lenders may occasionally request a standalone CBA.
- Related, though less frequently produced analyses include:
- Cost-Effectiveness Analysis (CEA) – A CEA is mostly used in healthcare and conducted in addition to a CBA.
- Distributional Cost-Effectiveness Analysis (DCEA)
- Triple Bottom-Line Cost-Benefit Analysis (TBL-CBA)
- Least Cost Planning Methodology (LCPM)
